Kirchgemeindezentrum Pirna-Sonnenstein, Protestant church center in Sonnenstein district, Pirna, Germany
Kirchgemeindezentrum Pirna-Sonnenstein is a church building with community rooms in the Sonnenstein district of Pirna. The structure combines a central worship hall with meeting spaces and features Gothic architectural elements and sandstone walls.
The foundation stone was laid in 1985, the topping-out ceremony occurred in 1986, and the consecration happened in 1988. The building emerged during the period of church construction in East Germany and reflects the cooperation between state and church at that time.
The center grew from an agreement between the East German state and the Protestant Church to build worship spaces in new residential areas. It remains an active gathering place for the local Protestant community and regular religious services.
The building sits in the Sonnenstein district surrounded by residential areas, making it easy to find. The interior spaces are open to visitors, especially during worship services and community events.
The building received an Eule organ in 1991, which continues to be used for worship and concerts today. Inside, visitors can see a sculpture by Peter Makolies depicting Peter with sun and rooster.
