Wald westlich Wrohm, Conservation area in Süderdorf, Germany
Wald westlich Wrohm is a protected forest area south of Federal Highway 203 situated between Lüdersbüttel and Wrohm. The site covers 26 hectares and lies at elevations between 11 and 30 meters.
The forest is documented in historical maps since 1651 as Stern Lüdersbüttel, indicating continuous woodland presence for over three centuries. This long-standing existence reflects its enduring importance to the landscape.
The forest functions as a learning space for a forest kindergarten, where children experience nature and habitat protection directly. Visitors can observe how this protected area supports environmental education.
Access to this protected area is limited to a single service road, with the site completely enclosed by hedgerows. A small stream at the northwest border offers the only opening to the surrounding landscape.
The terrain formed during the Saale glacial period contains specialized forest types including beech forests with wood millet and old oak woods on sandy plains. These habitat types hold particular conservation value for the region.
