The Schlossgarten is a green space north of Kiel Castle, bounded by the street of the same name, Hegewischstraße, Düsternbrooker Weg and Prinzengarten. It covers just under three hectares, measuring about 300 metres long and 100 metres wide. Its northern section holds the sculpture garden of the Kunsthalle zu Kiel.

The Schlossgarten began as a small Renaissance garden when Duke Adolf I of Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorf rebuilt Kiel Castle between 1558 and 1568. In 1695 Duchess Friederike Amalie had it remade as a Baroque garden, which fell into neglect after her death. In the mid-19th century it became an English landscape garden; after World War II the upper part served as a parking lot for the university clinic. Since 2007 the beds around the equestrian statue follow historical plans, and the terraces were restored in 2010.

The garden's name comes from the Kiel Castle it once served, and its northern section has housed the Kunsthalle's sculpture garden since 1986, with works by Bård Breivik, August Endell, Per Kirkeby, Alf Lechner, Bjørn Nørgaard, Karl Prantl and James Reineking. Beds around the equestrian statue of Wilhelm I have been replanted according to historical plans since 2007.

The garden lies north of Kiel Castle, bounded by Schlossgarten street, Hegewischstraße, Düsternbrooker Weg and Prinzengarten, about 300 metres long and 100 metres wide. The equestrian statue of Wilhelm I stands amid beds replanted since 2007 according to historical plans, and the terraces were restored in 2010.

The northern third of the garden has held the Kunsthalle zu Kiel's sculpture garden since 1986, with works by Bård Breivik, August Endell, Per Kirkeby, Alf Lechner, Bjørn Nørgaard, Karl Prantl and James Reineking. Many visitors walking the main lawns never reach this section.
