Fünf-Seen-Kaserne, Military barracks in Plön, Germany.
The Fünf-Seen-Kaserne was a military facility in western Plön that occupied a large area between several lakes. The barracks formed a substantial military complex with multiple buildings and facilities spread across the terrain.
Construction began before World War II and was completed in 1958, after which the barracks hosted various German army units. Military operations ended after the Cold War, and the site closed in 1996.
The name refers to five lakes surrounding the site, which shape the local landscape and give the area its distinctive character. Visitors can still see these waters encircling the former military grounds.
The former military site is no longer accessible as an active barracks since its closure led to transformation. The area has been developed into a residential neighborhood that can be explored by car or bicycle, with public pathways throughout.
Only one residential building was preserved after closure while most other structures were demolished before the site was redeveloped into a new urban district. This transformation demonstrates how former military sites can be repurposed for civilian residential use.
