Landhaus Katharinenhof, Heritage monument in Blankenese, Hamburg, Germany.
Landhaus Katharinenhof is a two-story villa with a plastered facade featuring Doric columns and a triglyph frieze on its garden side. The main elevations display classical proportions with symmetrical window arrangements.
Merchant Georg Friedrich Baur commissioned the villa's construction between 1829 and 1836 under the direction of architects Ole Jørgen Schmidt and Johann Matthias Hansen. The building later served various functions as a military headquarters and administrative office.
A sandstone relief above the rear wall of the altana shows a scene from Roman mythology depicting Proserpina's abduction.
The building can be viewed from the outside and is located in a quiet residential area easily accessible on foot. The surroundings are pleasant for a walk to explore the classical villas in the neighborhood.
King Christian VIII of Denmark and Norway visited the villa in 1840 during a tour of his provinces. This royal visit made the house a noteworthy place in the local history of Blankenese.
