Munitionslager Aurich is a military ammunition facility located near Dietrichsfeld, sprawling across forested land. The installation contains numerous concrete bunkers connected by roads and former railway routes used during its operational years.
Construction began in 1936 as an external storage facility for military ammunition purposes. After the war ended, the site came under different control and was transformed for other uses.
A memorial cemetery on the grounds honors Soviet soldiers who died during World War II. Visitors find a quiet place of remembrance set within the forest landscape.
The site is accessible on foot using marked trails that pass through the forested landscape and past visible concrete structures. Sturdy footwear is recommended since paths go through woodland and around former military buildings.
The site features remnants of a narrow-gauge railway that once connected all bunkers and used specialized locomotives for ammunition transport. Today the remaining tracks remind visitors of this distinctive transport system from World War II times.
