Wasserturm am Bahnhof Leeste

The water tower at Leeste railway station is a three-story brick structure with a pyramidal roof and wide cornice standing near the railway tracks. A single-story locomotive shed adjoins it, forming a connected ensemble of station infrastructure.

Constructed in 1909, the tower supplied water to the local railway line during its operational years until 1955. It was built during an era of expanding railway infrastructure in the region.

The structure reflects early industrial railway design, with functional forms that remain visible today in its brick facade and distinctive roofline. Such buildings once shaped the character of railway infrastructure across northern Germany.

The tower stands at Leerster Strasse 88 as part of a protected monument ensemble alongside the locomotive shed. The exterior can be viewed from the surrounding area, though the interior remains closed to the public.

The structure was never fully modernized and retains all its essential original elements from its construction period. Close inspection reveals traces of the historic water pipes and technical systems that once served the railway operations.
