Nini Suhien National Park

Nini Suhien National Park is a protected nature reserve in Ghana's Western Region, covered by dense tropical rainforest with lush vegetation throughout. The terrain features wet lowland forests crossed by streams and water sources that support a wide range of plant and animal life.

The park was established in 1976 to protect Ghana's natural forests and wildlife from destruction. This decision reflected growing awareness about the importance of preserving rainforests in the region.

The park management collaborates with local communities to integrate traditional environmental knowledge into conservation practices while maintaining ecological balance.

The park is best reached via nearby Elubo town, which offers basic accommodations and is only a short distance away. It is wise to hire a local guide and bring sturdy shoes and rain gear, as the terrain is wet and densely vegetated.

The protected area houses 43 mammal species and maintains an extraordinary concentration of 300 different plant species within a single hectare.
