Tower of the Winds, Ancient clock tower in Roman Agora, Athens, Greece
The octagonal marble tower reaches 12 meters in height and features eight relief sculptures of wind deities around its perimeter.
Built around 50 BC by astronomer Andronicus of Cyrrhus, the structure contained a water clock powered by water from the Acropolis rock.
The eight wind gods carved on the frieze represent different directions and weather conditions, reflecting ancient Greek understanding of natural elements.
Visitors can reach the monument within 5 minutes by foot from Monastiraki Square, following the signs through the Roman Agora.
The structure combined three different time-measuring methods: a water clock, multiple sundials, and a bronze wind vane shaped like Triton.
