Hadrian's Library, Roman archaeological library in Monastiraki, Greece
The library complex extends over 122 by 80 meters, featuring a central courtyard surrounded by one hundred marble columns and reading rooms.
Emperor Hadrian commissioned this library in 132 CE, which functioned as a repository for papyrus scrolls and a center for academic discussions.
The structure transformed through centuries, with three successive churches built within its walls during the fifth, seventh, and twelfth centuries.
The site opens daily from 8:00 to 20:00, with a combined ticket granting access to multiple archaeological sites including the Acropolis.
The western facade retains original Corinthian columns standing eight meters tall, constructed from both Pentelic and Cipollino marble types.
