Peristeri, Suburban municipality in western Athens, Greece
Peristeri is a municipality in the western Athens metropolitan region, stretching between Egaleo Mountain and the Cephissus River. The area combines residential neighborhoods with green boundary spaces and serves as home to tens of thousands of residents.
The area transformed from empty fields into refugee camps during the Greco-Turkish War between 1919 and 1922. This period shaped the region deeply and contributed to its development as a settled community.
The place retains memories of its past as a refuge site through small monuments and local museums that tell stories of the community. The municipality supports the lives of residents through theaters and cultural events that help shape the identity of western Athens.
Three stations of Athens Metro Line 2 connect the area with the city center: Anthoupoli, Peristeri, and Agios Antonios. Visitors can easily reach downtown and explore other parts of Athens using this connection.
The Peristeri Arena with 4,000 seats has been an important venue for sports and cultural events since 1989. The facility bears the name of a former prime minister and has become a symbol of the place.
