Museum of Amphipolis, Archaeological center in Serres Regional Unit, Greece
The Museum of Amphipolis displays collections spanning from prehistoric times through the Byzantine period across two floors. The exhibits showcase archaeological finds that document the history and material culture of the ancient settlement.
Most of the collection comes from excavations between 1956 and 1984 directed by archaeologist Dimitris Lazaridis. This systematic work revealed the layered history of settlement at this significant location.
The exhibition spaces show objects that reveal daily life, religious practices, and economic systems of ancient residents. These artifacts offer a glimpse into how people worked, traded, and worshipped in this settlement long ago.
The museum is located about 600 meters north of the acropolis and opens daily except Tuesdays. Summer hours run from 8:00 to 20:00, with shorter hours during the winter season.
The coin collection holds rare Macedonian coins made from precious metals mined in the nearby Pangaion Mountains. These coins reveal how the ancient settlement's wealth was connected to the region's rich mineral resources.
