Serres Regional Unit

The Serres Regional Unit is an administrative region in Central Macedonia that spans across varied terrain and encompasses several municipalities. The area sits between the Orvelos mountains to the north and the Menoikio mountains to the east.

The region changed hands multiple times over centuries between various rulers and empires. It became definitively part of Greece only after the Second Balkan War.

The area holds traces of long settlement, with ancient monasteries standing near archaeological sites like Amphipolis and natural caves such as Alistrati that reveal how people lived over time. These places shape how visitors understand the region's past way of life today.
