Makelaria Monastery, Orthodox monastery in Kalavryta Municipality, Greece
The Makelaria Monastery stands at an elevation of 620 meters near Lapanagoi village, featuring a Byzantine church with a carved wooden screen.
General Velissarius Justinian established the monastery in 532 AD, as confirmed by an inscription discovered at the construction site.
The monastery preserves valuable artifacts including weapons, vestments of Greek Revolution fighters, and the Holy Icon of the Virgin Mary.
Located 30 kilometers from Kalavryta town, the monastery maintains regular visiting hours and includes a chapel within a small cave.
The monastery changed its name from Panagia Lithostrotiotissa after Turkish forces burned it in 1458, leading to its current designation.
