Kotychi, Protected wetland and lagoon in West Greece Region, Greece
The Kotychi lagoon extends over 3.7 square kilometers of brackish water, connected to the Ionian Sea in northwestern Elis.
The lagoon received international recognition on August 21, 1975, when it was designated as the 63rd Ramsar Wetland site for conservation.
Local communities in Lechaina and Vouprasia municipalities maintain traditional fishing practices while adhering to environmental protection measures.
Visitors can reach the lagoon by taking the GR-9/E55 highway, located 45 kilometers southwest of Patras and 23 kilometers north of Amaliada.
The water level fluctuations throughout the year create specific conditions that support multiple endangered species, including otters and caretta caretta turtles.
