Beletsi Lake, Mountain lake in Mount Parnitha, Greece
Beletsi Lake is a small freshwater lake on the eastern slopes of Mount Parnitha, sitting at around 600 meters elevation, with a distinctive guitar-like outline when seen from above. It is enclosed by pine forest and has a grassy shore with benches and open spaces for visitors.
The lake came into existence between 1973 and 1975 as an unplanned result of road construction that blocked a series of natural springs in the area. Rainwater and spring water collected in the depression left by the works, gradually filling what became a permanent lake.
Local families come to feed the swans and ducks that gather on the water, making the lake a regular weekend spot for people from nearby villages. A small chapel dedicated to Aghia Triada stands close to the shore and draws visitors during religious celebrations.
The lake is reached from the village of Ippokrateios Politeia along a clear path, and parking is available nearby for those arriving by car. Benches and shaded spots along the shore make it easy to spend a few hours without needing to bring much equipment.
Around 45 permanent springs feed the lake and the surrounding forest throughout the year, keeping the water level relatively stable even in dry summers. Lilies and crocuses bloom at different points in the season along the shore, so the look of the banks changes noticeably depending on when you visit.
