Armenisti lighthouse, Maritime lighthouse at Cape Armenistis, Mykonos, Greece
Armenisti lighthouse is a white octagonal stone tower located on the northwestern coast of Mykonos. The structure was built to guide ships through the waters surrounding the Aegean islands using a rotating light mechanism.
This lighthouse was built following a major shipwreck in 1887 when a British steamship sank near the coast. The tower was constructed to prevent similar maritime disasters in the area.
The original French lighting mechanism, created by Sauter Lemonier, earned recognition at the Paris International Exhibition and now resides in the Aegean Maritime Museum.
Access is by road from Agios Stefanos through a winding mountain route on the northwestern part of the island. The site offers the best views during daylight hours when the tower is clearly visible against the sky.
During World War II, this location served as a strategic observation post for the German military occupation. Its position between two islands made it valuable for monitoring sea traffic across the Aegean region.
