Emir Zade mosque

The Emir Zade Mosque is an Ottoman structure in Chalkida with a rectangular floor plan and a central dome supported by four smaller domes. The building shows careful construction with clear interior spaces and structural elements typical of its era.

The building was constructed in the late 1400s following Ottoman conquest and served as one of three main Islamic places of worship in the city at that time. Its function and use changed over the centuries as the region's history unfolded.

The interior preserves a niche on the east wall with original colors and decorative details from Islamic times. These elements show how people once gathered here to pray and worship.

To visit, arrange an appointment in advance with the Antiquities office that oversees the site. This allows staff to prepare the space and ensure you can properly see the exhibition areas inside.

Ancient column fragments and a fountain from 1655 bearing Arabic inscriptions remain visible around the structure. These remnants show how different historical periods overlapped and shaped this location.
