Megaron Gyzi, Cultural museum in Fira, Greece.

Megaron Gyzi Museum is a former mansion in Fira that now houses drawings, historical maps, and photographs of the island. The collection documents how Santorini changed and developed across different periods.

The building was constructed in the 17th century and served as a family residence for many years. It survived the 1956 earthquake and remains one of the few examples of that architectural style still standing on the island.

This mansion once served as a home for a wealthy family and now shows how residents of Santorini lived in earlier times. The rooms preserve period details that reveal the daily life and taste of the local upper class.

The museum is located opposite the Catholic Cathedral, making it easy to find while walking through central Fira. It operates during the warm months, so plan your visit between May and October when the building is open to guests.

The museum holds a special collection of photographs by Vicentio Pintos taken between 1930 and 1956 that capture Fira before major transformations. These images are valuable because they show what the landscape looked like during a crucial period in the island's past.
