Aradaina Bridge, Road bridge in Aradena, Greece
Aradaina Bridge is a steel structure spanning 138 meters above the Aradaina Gorge, connecting the mountain village of Aradena with Agios Ioannis in Crete. It crosses a dramatic landscape where steep rocky walls rise on both sides of the ravine.
This bridge was built in 1986 by the Vardinogiannis family to connect isolated mountain settlements in Sfakia for the first time by road. The project solved decades of difficulties in reaching these remote communities.
The bridge stands near the ancient city of Araden and the traditional church of Astratigos, marking centuries of settlement in this mountainous region.
You can reach the bridge via a 12-kilometer paved road from Chora Sfakion to Anopoli, then continuing for 3.5 kilometers to Aradena. The drive through the mountains is slow, but the road is well maintained.
The bridge is Greece's highest and Europe's second-highest bungee jumping location, drawing thrill-seekers throughout the year. The extreme height and surrounding gorge create an unusual jumping environment.
