Athens Tower 1, Office building in Ampelokipoi, Greece
Athens Tower 1 is an office building on Mesogeion Avenue with 28 floors and a glass facade framed in aluminum. A central elevator core is surrounded by office spaces throughout the structure.
Construction began in 1968 after height restrictions were lifted in Athens, and it was completed in 1971. It was the city's first major high-rise project.
The tower changed how Athens looked when modern skyscraper design arrived in the city. Its glass facade and aluminum framing stand out visually from the traditional architecture around it.
The building offers extensive parking in three basement levels and is served by multiple elevators. Its location on a main avenue makes it easy to reach by car and public transport.
The building uses special elastic foundations that act as shock absorbers to reduce seismic movement. This engineering approach was novel for Athens and designed to protect the structure during earthquakes.
