National Glyptotheque

The National Glyptotheque occupies two restored buildings that were once royal stables within the Hellenic Army Park and features indoor galleries plus outdoor sculpture areas. The site includes exhibition spaces spread across green grounds where large-scale artworks are displayed outside.

The institution was founded in 2004 and opened with works by international and Greek sculptors displayed in the converted military buildings. The transformation of former military structures into an art venue marked a significant change in how this site was used.

The collection presents the journey of modern Greek sculpture from its early roots to works created today. You can trace how the art form has evolved over time through the displayed pieces.

The site is accessible by public transit and sits within a park offering plenty of space to walk around. Wear comfortable shoes and allow time to explore both the indoor areas and the outdoor grounds at your own pace.

The grounds were once a military facility before being converted into an art space, and today still show traces of this past use. This blend of military heritage and contemporary art display gives the place its distinctive character.
