Port-Navalo lighthouse, Maritime navigation tower in Port-Navalo, France
The Port-Navalo lighthouse is a 19-meter navigation tower on Brittany's southern coast that guides ships through the Gulf of Morbihan waters with white, red, and green light signals. The structure consists of a slender white tower topped with a lamp chamber.
The structure was built in 1891 to replace an older installation from the 1840s and improve maritime safety standards. This renewal reflected growing ship traffic along the Breton coast.
The lighthouse marks a vital point on the Breton coast where local fishermen and sailors have depended on its light for generations. It remains a symbol of maritime identity for this harbor region.
The lighthouse sits at the tip of the Arzon peninsula and is best reached on foot or by car via the local roads. The surroundings offer open viewing points across the bay and shipping lanes.
The lighthouse became automated in 1982 and no longer needed a permanent crew at this remote coastal post. Today it operates entirely on its own, monitoring passing vessel traffic.
