Maison de la danse, Dance theater in 8th arrondissement of Lyon, France
Maison de la danse is a performance center located on Avenue Jean Mermoz with two separate venues of different sizes. The main auditorium seats around 1,100 people, while a smaller studio space accommodates approximately 96 spectators for more intimate presentations.
The venue was established in 1980 as Théâtre de la Croix-Rousse and moved to its current location in 1992. The relocation, guided by architect Pierre Bourdeix's design, provided expanded and more modern facilities for dance productions.
This center serves as a hub for contemporary dance, presenting works from French and international choreographers throughout the year. Visitors experience the range of modern movement styles across its performance spaces.
Tickets can be purchased at the reception desk on weekdays between noon and 7 PM, with modified hours on weekends when performances are scheduled. Check the current program before visiting to confirm that a show is happening when you plan to arrive.
The center maintains its own reference library containing recordings of dance works and choreographies that interested visitors can access. This collection offers rare insight into dance documentation and history outside of regular performances.
