Hangar du premier film, Historic film factory in Lyon 8th district, France

A rectangular industrial building with corrugated iron roof and four half-trusses stands at 21 rue du Premier-Film as the last remnant of Lumière factories.

The Lumière brothers purchased this former hat factory in 1881 and transformed it into a photographic plate manufacturing facility with capacity for 300 workers.

The hangar appears in 'Workers Leaving the Lumière Factory', the first motion picture shown to an audience, filmed by Louis Lumière on March 19, 1895.

The building now serves as the entrance to a screening room at Institut Lumière, offering regular film showings and exhibitions about early cinema history.

The original roof structure visible in the first-ever film remains intact, making this location a physical connection to the birth of cinema.
