La Croix-Valmer

La Croix-Valmer is a coastal commune in Var between Saint-Tropez and Le Lavandou, stretching from the Mediterranean Sea to the hills of Massif des Maures. The area features numerous beaches, forested sections, and settlements spread across this diverse landscape.

The area was settled in ancient times, as shown by archaeological finds of tools and a Roman farm from the 3rd century BC near Pardigon. Later, the place became a battleground during World War II when Allied forces landed here in Operation Dragoon.

The place hosts local markets where Provençal products like olives and cheese are sold, keeping regional traditions alive in daily life. These gatherings reflect how the community maintains its connection to Mediterranean heritage.

The place is easily reached by bus, with connections to neighboring coastal towns that make exploring straightforward. Hiking trails cross the area and a public swimming pool offers refreshment, especially on warm days.

The beaches here were landing zones for thousands of Allied soldiers in 1944 during the liberation of Provence. This moment shaped the place's history and is still shown in memorial sites today.
