Le Tech is a commune in the Pyrénées-Orientales in southern France, spread across two distinct zones. One part follows the hillside with houses aligned along the roads, while the other section near the river contains sports and recreational facilities.
A devastating flood in 1940 destroyed much of the village, including the Romanesque church and many houses. The community rebuilt itself completely following this turning point in its history.
The hamlet of La Llau preserves 19th-century houses with a chapel and fountain that show how people built their homes in this mountain area. Walking through it, you see the original stone structures and the way the village developed organically along the hillside.
The town hall sits on a small square at a road intersection, marked by a war memorial and public fountains nearby. Being set in the mountains means some paths are steep, so sturdy shoes are advisable.
The region was once centered on iron ore mining from Mount Canigou, with forges scattered throughout the area. This mining heritage shaped the community's character even though the activity has long ceased.
