Ramatuelle

Ramatuelle is a coastal commune in Var that stretches across green hillsides between Saint-Tropez and La Croix Valmer. The settlement features stone houses with pink-tiled roofs nestled in the landscape, surrounded by vineyards and coastal forests.

The settlement's name evolved from the medieval form Ramatuella, which derives from the Arabic word Rahmatollah. This origin reflects the period when Moorish rulers controlled the region during the ninth century.

The village hosts traditional Provençal markets on Thursdays and Sundays where vendors sell regional products and local crafts. The way people here value local food and artisanal work shows a strong connection to the land and its heritage.

The area offers numerous marked trails for hiking and cycling that connect the village center to Pampelonne Beach and surrounding wine estates. It is helpful to wear sturdy shoes and start early to explore the routes during cooler hours.

Pampelonne Beach stretches for five kilometers and hides secluded inlets and small rocky formations along its length. The Camarat lighthouse stands on a distant promontory and serves as an important maritime landmark for the coastline.
