Hôtel de Vendôme, Private mansion in 6th arrondissement, Paris, France.
Hôtel de Vendôme is a private mansion in the 6th arrondissement featuring early 18th-century French architectural elements and distinctive facades typical of that period. The complex includes structures from multiple expansion phases that show its evolution across more than a century.
Built in 1707 by Jean-Baptiste Alexandre Le Blond for Antoine de La Porte, the mansion defined the streetscape from its inception. Major renovations and expansions between 1840 and 1866 under different architects shaped its current appearance.
The building now houses the École Nationale Supérieure des Mines and the Musée de Minéralogie, where historic rooms serve modern scientific purposes. Visitors can observe how education and craftsmanship intersect within these spaces.
Access is limited because the building primarily serves as a research and educational facility and is not open for regular visits. Those interested should check in advance whether special openings or guided tours are available.
During the 18th century, the 5th Duke of Chaulnes used the mansion for an extensive library and conducted scientific experiments. This blend of knowledge collection and research reflected the intellectual spirit of the Enlightenment era.
