Our Lady of Laus, Marian apparition site in Saint-Étienne-le-Laus, France.
Our Lady of Laus is a pilgrimage sanctuary in the French Alps that combines a large basilica with the original smaller chapel at its heart. The site sits in mountainous terrain southeast of Grenoble and welcomes visitors throughout the year.
The sanctuary arose from the visions of shepherdess Benoîte Rencurel, who reported daily encounters with the Virgin Mary between 1664 and 1718. These reports led to the establishment of a pilgrimage site that expanded over the following centuries.
The chapel Notre-Dame de Bon Rencontre remains at the heart of the sanctuary, marking where the shepherdess first experienced her visions. Pilgrims gather there today to pray in the same space that drew believers for centuries.
The sanctuary is accessible via the town of Gap, which has train connections from Paris and Marseille. From there, visitors can arrange car rental or use local transportation options to reach the site for the final stretch of the journey.
The sanctuary preserves oil from the basilica's lamp, which tradition holds can bring healing when carried with faith. Visitors often take small amounts of this oil home as a spiritual blessing tied to their pilgrimage experience.
