Marian apparitions of Notre-Dame du Laus, Marian apparition site in Saint-Étienne-le-Laus, France
Notre-Dame du Laus is a pilgrimage sanctuary in the French Alps consisting of a basilica, the Chapel of Good Encounter, and supporting structures. The grounds include an 18th-century marble statue and multiple spaces designed for prayer and contemplation.
The sanctuary arose following reports by shepherdess Benoîte Rencurel, who described regular visions between 1664 and 1718. A church was constructed in 1666 and later expanded into a larger pilgrimage complex.
The name Notre-Dame du Laus means "Our Lady of the Clearing" and reflects the mountain setting where the visions took place. Pilgrims today experience this as a place where faith and landscape come together in a shared sense of purpose.
The sanctuary offers year-round lodging options including hotel rooms and provides dining facilities and a bookstore on-site. Regular religious services are held, and the grounds are easy to navigate with pathways connecting various chapels and prayer areas.
A lamp at the sanctuary reportedly produces oil that believers have associated with physical and spiritual healing across centuries. This phenomenon continues to inspire reflection and devotion among those who visit.
