Built in the 10th century, this fortress served as a strategic military outpost for Catalan nobility and stands as the earliest example of medieval fortification in Roussillon.

The Department organizes medieval festivals, theatrical visits, and nature workshops throughout the summer season, connecting visitors with regional traditions and heritage.

The castle opens daily from May to September, with guided tours available in multiple languages and specially adapted materials for visitors with disabilities.

The castle underwent transformation into a seaside resort during the 19th century, leaving traces of different architectural periods within its ancient walls.
