La Défense is Europe's largest purpose-built business district located in the metropolitan area of Paris.
The creation of La Défense dates back to 1958 and the selection of its unique name, which was taken from the statue 'La Défense de Paris', commemorating the city's defense during the Franco-Prussian War.
Apart from being a financial hub, La Défense is also known for its modern architecture and public artworks including sculptures, paintings, and installations.
Located at the westernmost extremity of Paris' historical axis, it's easily accessible through public transportation, having an extensive metro line and bus stations.
It spans across four towns - Puteaux, Courbevoie, Nanterre and La Garenne-Colombes.
