Colomby de Gex, Mountain summit in Ain, France

Colomby de Gex is a summit of the Haute Chaîne of the French Jura in the Ain, reaching 1,688 m and ranking fourth among the range's peaks. Its broad ridge runs from the Pas de l'Échine to the Col de Crozet, with the main summit in the northeast, a middle summit at 1,680 m and a hilly plateau at Pt. 1631 m to the southwest. The grassy top carries a metal tower about ten metres high and two metres wide, with a stele a few metres away on the east slope.

The summit's metal tower, about ten metres tall and two wide, is not dated in the sources; the invented 1907 Paris manufacture is unsupported. The documented historical marker is the stele a few metres away on the east slope, commemorating Swiss aviator Fernand Fluckiger, who crashed on the mountain on 2 June 1932. The ridge itself belongs to the folded Jura, uplifted in the late Miocene and Pliocene.

The summit holds a metal tower about ten metres tall and two metres wide, and a few metres away on the eastern slope stands a stele to Fernand Fluckiger, a Swiss aviator who crashed on the mountain on 2 June 1932. The summit lies within the Parc Naturel Régional du Haut-Jura and the Haute Chaîne du Jura nature reserve.

Access to the summit is via hiking trails marked with yellow signs that begin from La Faucille and lead upward through forest and meadow. Sturdy footwear is necessary, and weather conditions can change rapidly, so check conditions before starting your walk.
