Corniche des Crêtes, Coastal road between Cassis and La Ciotat, France
Corniche des Crêtes is a coastal road that winds between Cassis and La Ciotat through a landscape of dramatic limestone cliffs. The route rises and falls sharply as it follows the edge of the Mediterranean, offering constant views down to the water and hidden coves below.
The road was completed in 1969, connecting two previously isolated coastal communities with a direct route for the first time. This project allowed both residents and visitors to explore the coastline that had been difficult to reach before.
The road forms part of a network connecting numerous French coastal communities, enabling local residents to maintain their traditional connections to both land and sea.
The road has several parking areas where you can safely stop to enjoy views or take short walks. Most visitors drive slowly to take in the many outlooks along the way.
Cap Canaille, a point along the route, rises approximately 394 meters straight up from the sea and is France's highest maritime cliff. From this dramatic spot, the Mediterranean appears particularly vast and deep.
