Châteauroux-Centre "Marcel Dassault" Airport, airport in France
Châteauroux-Centre "Marcel Dassault" Airport is an airport in Déols, about 9 kilometers north of Châteauroux in the Centre-Val de Loire region. The facility features a 3500 meter runway and primarily handles cargo operations, aircraft maintenance, and pilot training activities.
The airport was founded in 1936 by Marcel Dassault as an aircraft manufacturing and research center. During the Cold War, it hosted a major US Air Force base with up to 8000 military personnel before transitioning to civilian use in 1967 and later serving diverse aviation industries.
Taxis await passengers at the airport exit and can reach the city center about 7 kilometers away. There is no direct bus service to the center, but several car rental companies such as Europcar, Avis, and Hertz operate desks on-site, and free parking with about 140 spaces serves visitors arriving by car.
The airport features its own 600 meter railway line with three tracks connected directly to Paris rail lines, enabling seamless cargo transfer between train and aircraft. It also hosts aerobatic training and has hosted world championship competitions, including one in 2015.
