Alma – Marceau, Metro station in 8th arrondissement, France.
Alma-Marceau is a metro station on Line 9 of the Paris Metro located underground in the 8th arrondissement. It features two side platforms separated by tracks beneath an elliptical vault that forms its interior structure.
The station opened on May 27, 1923, as part of an extension of Line 9 from Trocadéro toward Saint-Augustin. This expansion was a key step in broadening the Paris Metro network through the western sections of the city.
The name joins references to the Battle of Alma and General François Séverin Marceau-Desgraviers from the French Revolutionary Wars. Passengers passing through can sense these historical layers embedded in the station's nomenclature.
The station offers three entry points with Dervaux balustrades connecting passengers to several bus routes. Nearby connections include RER line C at Pont de l'Alma for longer journeys across the metro area.
The station required reinforced construction due to its proximity to the Seine River. This engineering solution created distinct vertical structural elements that define the interior and reflect the technical challenges of building near water.
