Crazy Horse, Cabaret and strip club in 8th arrondissement, France
Crazy Horse is a cabaret and nightclub on Avenue George V in the eighth arrondissement of Paris. The stage sits in former wine cellars and features shows combining dance, lighting, and occasional magic acts.
Alain Bernardin opened the venue in 1951 and ran it until 1994, introducing techniques involving projections and colored spotlights. In recent decades, internationally known performers have appeared in special engagements.
The founder chose the name after a Lakota chief and developed an aesthetic based on precise light design and choreography. The dancers perform under stage names and each number follows its own staging with colors and projections.
Performances take place twice most evenings and three times on Saturdays. The theater is not very large, so booking ahead is recommended.
In 2012 the dancers went on strike to negotiate better wages. It was the first such action in a French cabaret.
