The Musée Yves Saint Laurent Paris is a biographical museum housed in a former haute couture house in the 16th arrondissement. The building displays fashion collections, sketches, and personal items arranged within the original rooms where designs were created.
The couture house opened at 5 avenue Marceau in 1974 and operated there until 2002. Two museums were created in 2017 from the Pierre Bergé – Yves Saint Laurent foundation holdings: Marrakech, opened 19 October, and Paris, inaugurated in late September 2017 and opened in October. Pierre Bergé initiated the Paris museum and died shortly before it opened; it received the Musée de France label.
The name honors the designer who shaped fashion history. Inside, you see sketches, garments, and documents that show how his work influenced style and design for decades.
The museum is temporarily closed, so check before planning a visit. It stands at 5 avenue Marceau, near the Pont de l'Alma in the 16th arrondissement, a few hundred metres from the Palais Galliera. The visit covers 450 m² spread over every floor of the 19th-century Second Empire building, with the exhibition divided into small partitioned rooms.
The studio where Yves Saint Laurent worked until 2008 was kept intact after the couture house closed, with few people allowed inside. The museum reconstructed it almost identically and now opens it to visitors, showing the work table where he designed daily with his personal objects and last projects.
