Pont de l'Archevêché, Stone bridge in the 4th arrondissement, France

The Pont de l'Archevêché spans 68 meters across the Seine River, connecting the 4th district to the Saint-Victor quarter through three stone arches.

The bridge, inaugurated in 1828 during Charles X's feast day, retained its name from the Archbishop's palace that stood nearby until its destruction in 1831.

The structure served as a passage to the city morgue at its northern end from 1864 to 1923, where bodies of prisoners and drowning victims were taken.

The bridge forms part of the Paris road network, providing a direct link between Notre-Dame Cathedral and the Left Bank for pedestrians and cyclists.

The bridge measures 17 meters in width and features three stone arches with openings of 15, 17, and 15 meters respectively.

Historical sites in Paris Quartier Latin

The Quartier Latin combines Roman ruins, medieval churches, and historic universities. The Arènes de Lutèce displays Roman origins, while the Sorbonne and Collège de France represent academic tradition. Between old libraries and botanical gardens, narrow streets lead to hidden squares and traditional cafés.
