Hôtel de Miramion

The Hôtel de Miramion is a private mansion on Quai de la Tournelle featuring classical design, painted beam ceilings, and ornate facades. The building rises over multiple stories and displays characteristic features of 17th-century French architecture.

The building was constructed between 1631 and 1670 under architect François Mansart and originally served as the residence of Christophe Martin, a State Counselor and Controller of Royal Stables. After 1675, Madame de Miramion transformed it into a place of community and care.

The name recalls Madame de Miramion, who founded a community here to educate young girls and provide medical care to poor people. Visitors can see the spaces that were long used for this charitable work.

The building sits along the Seine riverfront in the 5th arrondissement and is easily accessible by public transportation. Visitors should view it from the riverside, as it remains a private property with limited interior access.

For many years, the building served as the central pharmacy supplying Paris hospitals and stored essential medical supplies. Today it houses the AP-HP Museum, which preserves a large collection of medical instruments and equipment from different eras.
