Nice tramway, Tram system in Nice, France

The Nice tramway network connects the city across multiple lines serving residential neighborhoods, the airport, and the port. The system operates daily and provides reliable transportation through various parts of town.

The first tramway in Nice opened in 1879 and shaped city transport for decades. The modern network was planned after 1998 and began operating in 2007 to reconnect the city.

The stations display art installations and local design elements that reflect the coastal architecture of the French Riviera. You notice how well these modern stops blend into the city's appearance and character.

Trams run frequently throughout the day with digital display boards at all stations showing arrival times. It's easy to see where to exit since stations are clearly marked.

One line uses solar power with charging stations at certain stops, eliminating the need for overhead wires in those sections. This makes it an example of eco-friendly city transport.

Places to visit and activities in Nice

Nice combines museums, parks and coastal areas in a city between hills and the Mediterranean. The Marc Chagall Museum holds the largest public collection of his works, while the Matisse Museum is devoted to the paintings and sculptures of an artist who spent many years here. Castle Hill offers views over the rooftops and the water, and the Promenade des Anglais follows the shoreline. The Saint Nicholas Russian Orthodox Cathedral is the largest of its kind in Western Europe and stands in a quiet neighborhood north of the center. Parc du Mont Boron spreads across wooded slopes with trails for walking. Place Masséna marks the heart of the city with red facades and open squares. Port Lympia lies east of the old town and keeps the feel of a working harbor. These places show different sides of Nice, from art to nature to everyday life by the sea.
