Bosquet de l'Arc de Triomphe, Garden alcove with triumphal arch in Versailles, France.
The Bosquet de l'Arc de Triomphe is a garden alcove in Versailles featuring a golden triumphal arch at its focal point. The space is surrounded by cascading water fountains and ornamental pyramid structures arranged symmetrically on both sides.
This garden alcove was built between 1677 and 1684, replacing an earlier structure that stood on the same site. It became part of the major redesign of the Versailles gardens during Louis XIV's reign.
The main fountain portrays France victorious on a chariot surrounded by military trophies and weapons. This scene reflects the royal power and political triumphs that Louis XIV wanted to celebrate through his palace gardens.
The best time to visit is in the afternoon when the water features are operating. Access to this garden area is by foot from the main gardens, and the pathways are easy to walk.
The lower section preserves the only original element that survives from the initial construction. This remaining fountain is a rare surviving piece of the artistic work that was installed when the garden was first built.
