Bosquet des Trois Fontaines, Garden grove in Versailles, France
Bosquet des Trois Fontaines is a garden grove in Versailles arranged with three water basins connected by cascades across three descending terraces in geometric patterns. The water features are arranged in tiers and create a flowing downward progression across the landscape.
The site was created between 1677 and 1679 under the direction of Andre Le Notre, who designed it with sophisticated water features. A restoration completed in 2004 returned it to its original condition and made the water systems fully operational again.
The name refers to the three water basins that form the heart of this garden space and reflect classical French garden design through their arrangement. Visitors can observe how water flows in rhythmic patterns and emphasizes the geometric structure of the place.
The space is best visited during good weather when the water features are active and running regularly. Comfortable shoes are advisable, as walking on the terraces and paths throughout the area is required to experience all parts of the grove.
The lower basin contains an octagonal pool with a central fountain where water jets create a fleur-de-lis pattern. This royal floral symbol appears frequently throughout the fountain design and reflects the crown's influence on the space.
