L'Excelsior, Art Nouveau brewery and historical monument in Nancy, France

L'Excelsior is an Art Nouveau building and restaurant in Nancy that combines brewery operations with refined architectural design. The interior and exterior feature elaborate details such as stained glass windows, chandeliers, and intricate metalwork throughout the spaces.

Architect Lucien Weissenburger designed this building in 1911 as a fusion of brewery operations and artistic architecture. The structure emerged during a period when craftsmanship and contemporary design were particularly connected in France.

The venue preserves its original function as a brewery while serving regional Lorraine specialties, where historical craft traditions and contemporary dining coexist. Diners experience how local taste traditions are maintained within spaces that once united craftsmanship with everyday culture.

The establishment sits on Rue Mazagran in central Nancy and operates daily from morning through evening. Visitors should allow time to explore the rooms at a leisurely pace, especially if they wish to appreciate the artisanal details.

Inside, a distinctive bannister was created by Jean Prouvé, an artist who would later become known for innovative furniture design. The luminous elements came from the respected Daum and Majorelle workshops, celebrated for their glass craftsmanship.
