Tour des Templiers

Tour des Templiers is a medieval chapel located in central Hyères featuring a rectangular structure with two superimposed levels and arched windows on three facades. The building displays characteristic Romanesque elements typical of its period and region.

The Knights Templar built this chapel during the 12th century, and it passed to the Knights of Malta after the Templar order was dissolved in 1312. This transfer marked a shift in the building's ownership while maintaining its religious function.

The chapel now opens its rooms as an exhibition space, showing how a medieval structure has been adapted for visitors to experience. Inside, the restored spaces reflect how people have transformed the building over time.

The chapel is accessible from Place Massillon in central Hyères, a location near local shops and restaurants that makes it easy to visit. The site is straightforward to reach and explore on foot within the old town.

The building preserves its original blind arcades and displays alternating thick and thin stone courses from its 13th century construction. This building technique was a marker of quality craftsmanship in regional Romanesque architecture.
