Villa mauresque, Cultural heritage villa in Hyères, France

Villa Mauresque is a residence in Hyères featuring overhanging arches, crenellations, and a belvedere-minaret crowned with a dome, maintaining the structure of a classic contemporary dwelling. The property comprises three levels: a basement housing common areas, a ground floor with living spaces, and an upper floor dedicated to bedrooms.

The house was built in 1881 by architect Pierre Chapoulart for industrialist Alexis Godillot. Queen Victoria visited the gardens during her stay in the region in 1892.

The villa displays geometric ceramic tile patterns across its facade and features carved wooden arches in the grand salon beside a fireplace clad in multicolored marble. These decorative elements define the interior experience and create a sense of fine craftsmanship.

The property is straightforward to explore and offers clear views of how the different floor levels are organized. Visitors should allow time to examine the decorative details and spatial layout throughout to appreciate the craftsmanship.

The house blends oriental ornamentation with classical architectural design in an experimental way. This fusion was documented in architecture publications from its construction period and reflects the architect's innovative approach.
