Château de Chaumont

Château de Chaumont is a stone ruin positioned on elevated ground between two villages in the Creuse department. The structure still displays remnants of its original architecture, though a fire in 1986 caused severe damage.

The structure was built in 1886 for an opera singer, establishing its connection to the arts. During World War II, it became a crucial shelter where thousands found protection under humanitarian administration.

The castle served as a shelter for Jewish families fleeing persecution during World War II. Visitors can sense how this place provided refuge to people in their darkest hour.
