Fort du Paillet, Military fort in Dardilly, France

The Fort du Paillet stands at 394 meters altitude with a polygonal shape, featuring dry moats stretching 700 meters long and 16 meters wide.

Built between 1883 and 1886 as part of Lyon's second defensive belt, the fort was designed by General Serre de Rivières to accommodate 300 soldiers.

The fort houses multiple organizations, including a museum dedicated to ancient tools and crafts that showcases traditional artisanal techniques.

Guided tours of the fort take place on the first Saturday of each month, with additional visiting opportunities during Heritage Days.

The fort's powder magazine maintained exceptional humidity control systems and could store up to 51 tons of black powder for its 34 cannons.
