Hôtel de La Trémoille, Private mansion in the 16th arrondissement, Paris, France

Hôtel de La Trémoille is a Neoclassical private mansion at 1 boulevard Delessert, built from 1912 by Paul-Ernest Sanson for the Duke of La Trémoille. Its cream stone facade rises over a rusticated base, with a projecting right section holding an arched window above the doorway and a stone balustrade crowning the central block. Three large semicircular arcades decorated with mascarons face the street, and a long terrace lies behind them.

Paul-Ernest Sanson began the mansion in 1912 for Louis-Charles-Marie de La Trémoille, a duke from a family dating to the 13th century, deputy for the Gironde and owner of the Château de Serrant. Sanson died in 1918 and his son and grandson completed the work, unfinished in 1920. From 1927 to 1932 a clandestine branch of the Basel Commercial Bank occupied it and it was searched in the ensuing affair. Sold in 1936, it became the Yugoslav ambassador's residence, then Serbia's in the 1990s.

Since 1936 the mansion has housed the Yugoslav, then Serbian, ambassador's residence. Marko Ristic, the first ambassador of socialist Yugoslavia (1945–1951), regularly invited Louis Aragon, Elsa Triolet and Paul Éluard to its salons. The first occupant, 1936–1940, was Bojidar Pouritch, a figure of the Little Entente.

The residence sits close to major Paris landmarks including the Eiffel Tower and Arc de Triomphe, making it easy to locate and visit nearby attractions. Access is limited since this remains an active private residence, so viewing is typically from the exterior street level.

The dining room, on the gallery axis, holds two large carved-wood and gilded-stucco hunting trophies attributed to Gilles-Marie Oppenord, from the former hôtel de Pomponne on place des Victoires. They show setters, partridges, hares, quivers, horns and carbines around a tree on a mound.
